The future of physical fitness just got an update and a member of the NC Wesleyan faculty helped write it.✍️

Congratulations to Dr. Meir Magal, Chair of the School of Health Sciences, who served as second author on the American College of Sports Medicine’s new consensus statement, The Components of Physical Fitness.

After nearly five years of collaboration with leading experts, this publication introduces an updated, evidence-based framework that will influence how physical fitness is taught, assessed, and applied for years to come.

This is more than a publication; it’s a testament to the impact our faculty are making on their profession and the opportunities our students have to learn from nationally recognized leaders.

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Debbie Crawford (‘26) At 62 y

✨ Alumni Spotlight: Debbie Crawford (‘26)

At 62 years old, Debbie Crawford proved that it’s never too late to achieve a dream.

After putting college on hold to raise two children as a young widow, Debbie returned to school at age 57 with one goal: finish what she started and show her children that perseverance has no age limit.

Balancing a full-time career, family responsibilities, and coursework wasn’t easy, but NC Wesleyan’s Adult & Professional Studies Program and flexible 8-week online courses gave her the opportunity to succeed.

In 2026, Debbie graduated with honors, earning her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration 45 years after graduating high school.

Today, Debbie works as an Accounting Technician in the Finance & Business Office at NC State University’s Libraries and looks forward to the new opportunities her degree will bring.

Her advice to anyone considering going back to school?
“You are never too old to complete a dream, start a new dream, and reach for the stars.” 💙

Congratulations, Debbie! Your determination is an inspiration to the entire Wesleyan family.

There’s something special about seeing our campus filled with energy, laughter, and purpose each summer. 💙

We’re incredibly grateful to once again welcome the North Carolina District of the United Pentecostal Church to NC Wesleyan. For years, they’ve entrusted us with hosting their annual camp, bringing about 300 students and leaders together to grow in faith, build friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

It’s a privilege to play a small part in those moments, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for many summers to come. Thank you for allowing us to be your summer home!

For nearly a decade, NC Wesleyan’s Dr. Brewer has led an after-school program that supports local families of students with disabilities while giving future special education teachers invaluable hands-on experience.

Through the program, teacher candidates provide tutoring and academic support while parents participate in lessons covering topics such as Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), their rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), interpreting assessment data, recognizing academic and behavioral challenges, and becoming effective advocates for their children.

At Wesleyan, our students aren’t just learning how to teach, they’re learning how to empower families, strengthen communities, and make a lasting difference in the lives of children. 📚👩🏾‍🏫📝🌟

HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY! 🗺️💙

In May 2026, the Environmental Science program traveled to Belize for an immersive learning experience focused on conservation, biodiversity, and environmental science. 🌺

The experience brought together members of the NC Wesleyan community who share a passion for environmental stewardship and global learning.

👀 Participants explored Mayan history at Xunantunich, visited the Green Iguana Conservation Project, hiked and canoed through tropical ecosystems near Monkey River, and experienced Belize’s rich marine biodiversity through snorkeling and mangrove kayaking in Caye Caulker.

Throughout the trip, participants observed ocean and freshwater ecosystems, explored human impacts on the environment, and connected classroom concepts to real world conservation challenges. 💧

This experience highlights NC Wesleyan’s commitment to hands on learning, global education, environmental stewardship, and lifelong connections with its graduates.🧬🎓

Under the leadership of Dr. Daniel Elias, students have explored biodiversity, conservation & sustainability in Costa Rica, Iceland & now Belize!
