Rocky Mount is alive with “The Sound of Music”. Spend an evening with the Tar River Orchestra as we perform beloved classics from the musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein, including South Pacific, Carousel, Oklahoma and The Sound of Music. This promises to be “Some Enchanted Evening” as we bring to life some of the greatest music from the golden age of the American Musical Theater. Also, on the program will be music written by Richard Rodgers for the post WWII television documentary “Victory at Sea”, as well as our young artist concerto competition winner, violinist, Stephanie Suedbeck.

On Thursday, October 10, 2024, Wesleyan will host the 4th Annual Sporting Clays fundraising event at one of the finest clay shooting courses in the state, Rose Hill Farm Sporting Clays and Hunting Preserve in Nashville, NC.  All proceeds from this event will support various efforts to help Wesleyan students in their journey for lifelong learning and achievement as they prepare to make a difference in the communities where they’ll live and serve.

For Nirvani – A Nirvana Tribute Experience, it’s much more than simply being a tribute band. Larry & Joe were destined to make music together. Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, both men are versatile multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they offer features a distinct blend of their musical inheritances and traditions as well as storytelling about the ways that music and social movements coalesce.

While their instrumentation is that of bluegrass, Damn Tall Buildings is not bound to it. This roots/americana band from Brooklyn, NY pulls inspiration from a wide range of influences including swing, ragtime, jazz, and even a hint of contemporary. With lyrical storytelling and foot-stomping grooves, their songs about love and ramblin’ help to forget the everyday troubles. The Tar River Orchestra is joined by Elton John tribute artist, Craig Meyer, and Rocket Band for this one-of-a-kind musical experience.
