Effective 5/1/22 at 5 pm, the university recommends a mask optional policy for students, employees, and visitors. Unvaccinated individuals can continue to wear masks when they are unable to socially distance themselves and it is optional for college employees to wear masks in their classes or in their offices.

The University plans to have a normal fall opening unless conditions change significantly before then. Current or modified NCAA requirements will be followed.

Please be advised that as of, Tuesday, August 10, the College will require all persons to wear masks inside all campus buildings through Labor Day, Monday, September 6. We are closely watching local and regional COVID-19 trends and are primed to determine the steps necessary to protect our community as the circumstances evolve. We are closely following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. 

Those who are medically unable to wear a cloth or disposable medical-grade face covering may wear a face shield. We do have a limited supply of masks and face shields in the Provost’s Office should you need them.

Also… NCWC has signed on as part of the White House’s Vaccine College Champion program. Our purpose in being a part of this effort is to educate on and promote vaccination among students, faculty, and staff. Students who arrive at check-in fully vaccinated will get a free t-shirt and there will be weekly drawings for prizes for vaccinated students throughout the fall semester. We will announce our first winner at Rock The Mount on August 24! All campus community members can pick up vaccine champion swag at Rock The Mount – including window clings, silicone bracelets, and stickers. Further, in coordination with Health Services, we will be holding a Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinic close to the start of classes – details will be out on that soon. The college has created the following list for the safety of our students, faculty, and staff for this fall. You’ll note below that instructors may require students to wear masks in their classes as long as it’s noted as a policy in the syllabus or syllabus addendum (such as an email that is intended to supercede the original syllabus). NCWC COVID-19 Protocols

• In accordance with CDC guidelines, fully vaccinated students will not be required to wear masks on campus with the following exceptions: 
  • Classes in which the professor requires masks, as noted on the class syllabus. 
  • Masks are required in the Health Center per state guidelines. 
• Unvaccinated faculty, staff, and students should continue to wear masks when not able to social distance, including in residential buildings. 
• All campus community members should continue to social distance and practice frequent handwashing. 
• Students are expected to immediately report any COVID-19 symptoms or positive test results to the Director of Health Services by emailing jbrys@ncwu.edu. 
• Students testing positive for COVID-19 will need to leave campus upon diagnosis. We will not have quarantine space available on campus and resident students will not be permitted to stay in their assigned rooms. 
• Students arriving via international flight will be required to quarantine prior to checking in unless they have provided proof of immunity.  
• At check-in, all traditional students must submit a printed copy of one of the following: 
  • Vaccine card showing COVID vaccine(s), OR 
  • Proof of positive COVID test more than 10 days and less than one year from the date of arrival, OR
  • Laboratory report showing IgG antibodies to COVID-19, performed within the one month of arrival, OR 
  • Lab report showing a negative COVID-19 test within ten days of arrival. (Students will be expected to self-quarantine from the date of test until campus arrival.)

There are four weeks left before the end of the fall 2020 term. We remain confident that we can make it to November 24th with on-campus, face-to-face instruction. Over these next few weeks, please reference the Wesleyan Pledge as a reminder of each of our responsibilities as part of the Wesleyan Community. As we come to the end of this term and begin planning for the next, continue to visit our website for updates to the College’s Reopening Plans for spring 2021.

We are in Phase 2.5 (as a College) until October 5 or whenever the Governor gives his next update. The only thing that has changed as a College is that indoor mass gatherings are limited to 25 and outdoor mass gatherings are limited to 50 unless the event supports the instructional mission of the College.

(CONTROLLED Phase – ORANGE)

• All employees should report to work as normally scheduled, unless you are still considered in the vulnerable population category. Those individuals can work with their managers and HR regarding telework if possible.
• Tours may continue but face masks must be worn at all times while on campus, unless you are outside with more than six feet between you. Tours of residence halls will not be permitted during this time.
• Continue enhanced cleaning of all buildings.

All employees will be required to wear a mask when:

• They are working with other employees in the same location, less than 6 feet apart or if office space is shared.
• When walking inside buildings from one location to the next.
• During meetings when 6 feet of space is not available.
• During any outside (non-activity) event where social distancing is not possible.

Because NC is still in phase two through September 11, we will remain in our phase two as well. As a reminder, here is phase two for Wesleyan.
