Residency Pathway for Elementary and
Special Education

Tuition will be reduced by 50% for North Carolina Wesleyan graduates returning to complete the NCWU Residency Program.

Requirements BEFORE Beginning the Residency Program:

  1. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or Higher
  2. Passing Licensure Test Scores
  • Elementary:
    • Pearson Foundations of Reading, Test Number SA090 (Passing Score: 229)
    • Pearson General Curriculum: Math Subtest, Test Number SA203 (Passing Score: 227) OR
      PRAXIS Elementary Education: Math – CKT, Test Number 7803 (Passing Score 150)
  • Special Education:
    • Pearson Foundations of Reading, Test Number SA090 (Passing Score: 229)
    • Pearson General Curriculum: Math Subtest, Test Number SA203 (Passing Score: 227) OR
      PRAXIS Elementary Education: Math – CKT, Test Number 7803 (Passing Score: 150)
    • PRAXIS II Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild to Moderate Applications,
      Test Number 5543 (Passing Score: 158)
  1. Candidate Professional Dispositions Rating of Proficient by Education Faculty
  2. Full-time Employment in an Approved North Carolina Public School

Residency Pathway Completion is Contingent Upon:

  • Praxis Portfolio Assessment for Teachers (PPAT) Passing Score
  • Course Completion with a GPA 3.0 or Higher
  • Dispositions Rating of 2.5 or Higher
  • Positive Annual Field Evaluations
  • Passing Criteria on the LEA Certification of Teaching Capacity
