FULL-TIME Faculty Positions

Assistant Professor of Biology (Microbiology)

North Carolina Wesleyan University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology for a 9-month appointment starting in August 2025. The successful candidate’s duties include design and implement a Microbiology lecture and laboratory for nursing students as well as teaching other potential courses, such as Anatomy and Physiology, General Introductory Biology, or other courses that support the program. The responsibilities will also include advising undergraduate students, promoting program growth and academic excellence, overseeing student interns, and serving on internal committees. Per the university’s standards, the regular workload for faculty is 12 credit hours per semester. Faculty members are expected to engage students through traditional and innovative instructional strategies.

Qualifications:

An earned doctoral degree in Biology/Microbiology or related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must be on track to complete the Ph.D. by August 2026. Previous college or university-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Assistant Professor of Health Care Administration

The School of Business at North Carolina Wesleyan University invites applications for applications for 9-month faculty position(s) at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor starting August 2025.  This will be a term contract position with the possibility of an initial appointment up to three years.

Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic instructor who can offer both general and specialized courses in the field. The successful candidate will serve as a faculty member in the University’s Healthcare Administration (B.S.) degree track and may be affiliated with and teaching in NCWU’s B.S.N. program, Masters of Public Health program, Organizational Leadership program, or an other appropriate field if graduate degrees, professional credentials, or demonstrated experience align with those needs.

In addition to a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, the successful candidate should be well-versed in the appropriate use of technology and employing instructional technologies to provide courses through multiple modes of delivery. The successful candidate(s) should also be prepared to contribute to innovative curriculum development, including potential new undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates seeking to develop strong interdisciplinary tracks in healthcare related fields and campus-community connections are encouraged to apply.

North Carolina Wesleyan faculty are expected to develop strong relationships with colleagues, inspire and advise students, and demonstrate a high level of organization and habits of transparent and timely communication. The normal teaching load is four courses per semester, but there are adjustments for faculty members with administrative responsibilities. Additional responsibilities include engaging in research/scholarship or other appropriate professional activities, remaining current in the field(s) of specialization, and engaging in service to the department, university, and broader communities. We seek professionals who are thoughtful and creative leaders who can add immediate value to a growth-oriented institution that is committed to innovation in the complex environment of private higher education.

Education

The following combinations of education and experience may qualify potential candidates:

  1. Terminal degree in business management, healthcare management, public policy, or public administration (Ph.D., D.B.A. or equivalent); OR
  2. MPH or MBA degree with a background in the healthcare administration field; OR
  3. Terminal degree within any healthcare field and practical experience in health care management and administration (e.g. M.D., D.O., D.C., D.N.P., D.M.D. or equivalent).

Candidates with a graduate degree and equivalent management experience in the healthcare administration field (e.g., 5+ years of work experience at a management level in the healthcare industry) that might be deemed equivalent to the terminal degree are also encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to individuals with evidence of prior university teaching experience, graduate coursework, and/or research in any of the following needed subfields: healthcare administration, strategic leadership in the healthcare field, health care policy, and/or economics or analytics in the healthcare sector.

ADJUNCT Faculty Positions

NCWU employs part-time adjunct faculty to teach courses through the Rocky Mount Day program and also our Adult & Professional Studies Program at other campus locations or online.

Rocky Mount Day Program Openings

Adjunct courses taught through the Rocky Mount Day program are offered during daytime hours in the traditional semester format.

  • The University currently does NOT have any openings for APS Adjunct faculty positions

Adult & Professional Studies Program Openings

Adult & Professional Studies courses are generally offered in an 8-week or 5-week, accelerated format through evening classes. Instructors interested in applying should submit an Adjunct Faculty Application and copies of transcripts directly to the Academic Affairs Executive Assistant for consideration.

  • The University currently does NOT have any openings for APS Adjunct faculty positions

Requirements:

  • MUST have at least 18 graduate hours in the subject field of study that they would be teaching
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred
