Academia at Scale: Writing, Narrative and NCWU
Join us for a presentation exploring how narrative structures shape our individual experiences and the stories we tell about ourselves. Using Neil Smith’s understanding of scale, Dr. Mark Sursavage will examine his own experiences navigating NCWU and the insights and inadequacies that narrative structures impose.
While traditional narrative theory helps us understand how we make sense of experiences, “unnatural narratives,” a term coined by Brian Richardson, allow us to examine the assumptions we make and, perhaps, guide us to what we don’t see as a result. Combining critical theory and personal experience, Dr. Sursavage hopes to blur traditional distinctions between narrative genres and contribute to the ongoing discussion of how we see ourselves as NCWU faculty and as individuals.
