Title: “Moving Beyond WOW: Tech, Innovation, and Adoption in Teaching and Learning”

Synopsis: Who cares if they like learning? Well, at NCWU, we do!

This presentation explores a decade of research and real world experience supporting instructional design and technology at Wesleyan. Learning theories and affordances will be highlighted which support the use of innovative teaching strategies including immersive learning with virtual/augmented/extended reality, gamification, and other adventures.

Hear about both successes and failures of tech as well as best practices. Join in on this journey that will unearth the possibilities and push the boundaries of tech with a goal of providing quality educational experiences for our students.

ABOUT DR. NANCY MACLEAN

Dr. MacLean is the William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy Emeritus at Duke University. A historian of the modern U.S., she is the author of several award-winning books, most recently, Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America, finalist for the National Book Award. Her other publications include Behind the Mask of Chivalry: The Making of the Second Ku Klux Klan and Freedom is Not Enough: The Opening of the American Workplace. Her scholarship has received more than a dozen major prizes and awards.

Rocky Mount Academy’s Exceptional Eagles invite the community to celebrate the joy of the season with their upcoming production and adaptation of A Charlie Brown Christmas on Thursday, December 18 at 6:00 PM at The Dunn Center.

Since 2021, the Exceptional Eagles have brought audiences four heartfelt and inspiring performances. A Charlie Brown Christmas marks their fifth production—a beloved holiday classic sure to fill hearts with laughter, music, and the spirit of the season. “This performance is more than a play. It’s a celebration of talent, determination, and the beauty of a truly inclusive community.” Join us for an evening of holiday cheer, Eagle pride, and a reminder of the simple joys that make the season bright.

The Exceptional Children’s program at Rocky Mount Academy serves students ages 5–21 with a wide range of special needs. Currently, 25 students are enrolled in the program, where inclusion is at the heart of every school day. Student interns work alongside the Exceptional Eagles daily, fostering friendships, building skills, and creating a learning environment that truly reflects “INCLUSION at its finest.”

Information about Rise Against Hunger
Rise Against Hunger is an international nonprofit that works in countries worldwide to fight hunger, focusing on communities with high rates of food insecurity. The organization provides meals and supports sustainable solutions to end hunger. On December 18th, Rocky Mount Academy students will take part by packing 20,000 meals to help those in need.  Donations made at the doors the evening of RMA’s version of Charlie Brown Christmas will help support this Rise Against Hunger event.

The current cast members of the Emmy-nominated TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway? are proud to present their new improv tour: WHOSE LIVE ANYWAY?

WHOSE LIVE ANYWAY? is 90 minutes of hilarious improvised comedy and song all based on audience suggestions, leaving  you gasping with the very witty scenes they invent before your eyes. Audience participation is key to the show so bring your suggestions and you might be asked to join the cast onstage! WHOSE LIVE ANYWAY? showcases some of the improv games made famous on the long-running TV show as well as some exciting new ones, featuring musical direction by Laura Hall. All ages are welcomed, but please note that some “PG-13” language will be used during the performance.
