The Bishop Mentoring Alliance at North Carolina Wesleyan University (NCWU) connects students with dedicated community mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and real-world insight. Through meaningful one-on-one relationships, students gain valuable support as they navigate academic, personal, and professional goals.
Designed to help students turn aspirations into achievements, the Bishop Mentoring Alliance focuses on career exploration, professional development, leadership growth, and networking opportunities. Mentors share their experience, help students build confidence, and provide valuable perspectives that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
At the heart of the program is the belief that connection drives growth and wellbeing. By fostering intentional relationships between Wesleyan students and community leaders, the mentoring experience creates a supportive environment where students are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, explore new possibilities, and develop resilience. Mentors do not simply provide answers. They help students discover their own path, recognizing that personal and professional growth comes through learning, reflection, and experience.
Through the Bishop Mentoring Alliance, students gain more than a mentor. They gain a trusted connection, a stronger sense of purpose, and the tools to thrive in college and beyond.

How Can Students Get Involved in Bishop Mentoring Alliance (BMA)?
We are thrilled to offer NCWU students the opportunity to connect with community mentors dedicated to helping them develop practical skills and guide them through their career journey.
Students must complete an application, attend orientation, and engage in bi-monthly, or in-person meetings, while maintaining accountability through mandatory, post-meeting documentation. For more information, please contact Cindy Edwards, Chief Engagement Officer at Cedwards@ncwu.edu.
Awards and Recognition
NC Wesleyan honors each student that excels within the BMA program by awarding them with the following:
Most Improved Student/Mentee
This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated significant growth in confidence, skills, and academic performance.
Most Engaged/Active Participant
This award honors a mentee who has consistently demonstrated engagement, enthusiasm, and active participation throughout the program.
Mentorship Award
This award is presented to a mentor who has gone above and beyond in their commitment to guiding and supporting their mentee.
Bishop Program Enrollment Procedures for Students
Below are the detailed enrollment procedures for students interested in joining the Bishop Mentoring Alliance as mentees:
Enrollment Procedures
Complete the Mentee Application: All interested students must fill out the Mentee Application Form to express interest in the program. The application will require basic information about your academic interests, career goals, and personal development areas where you want mentorship.
Attend an Initial Orientation: Once your application has been reviewed, you will be invited to attend a brief orientation session where the expectations, responsibilities, and benefits of participating in the program will be discussed.
Mentor Pairing: After the orientation, you will be matched with a mentor based on your interests, goals, and career aspirations. You will receive an introduction email connecting you to your mentor, where you will schedule your first meeting.
Bi-Monthly Meetings: As part of the program, you and your mentor will meet twice a month. At least one of these meetings must be in person, with the option for the second meeting to be virtual. These meetings are essential for building a meaningful relationship and gaining the practical skills needed for your career.
Meeting Accountability: After each meeting with your mentor, you must submit an Accounting Form summarizing key takeaways from your discussions. This form will serve as a record of your engagement and progress in the program.
Communication Responsibility: If you cannot attend a scheduled meeting, you must notify your mentor and Jennifer Anderson (janderson@ncwu.edu) at least 24 hours in advance. This ensures that both the mentor and program remain informed and that rescheduling can be coordinated.
Commitment to the Program: This program supports your professional and personal growth. We expect all mentees to actively participate, communicate responsibly, and maintain professionalism throughout their time in the Bishop Mentoring Alliance.
