Get Rewarded for Your Referrals!
Welcome to NCWU’s Referral Program! Did you know that word-of-mouth referrals are our best source of new students? We know that our current students are our best advocates, and we want to reward you for helping us grow our community.
When you refer a friend, you’re doing more than helping NCWU—you’re helping someone who’s searching for the same opportunities you once were. By sharing your experience, you become a guide and advocate, making it easier for others to find a university that fits their life, goals, and dreams. Your support can be the difference that helps them take the next step toward success. As one of our valued student advocates, your support turns into opportunities for friends exploring NCWU. Here’s how it works:
What You Do
- Refer a friend, then send a friendly message within 48 hours—share why you love NCWU and offer to answer questions.
- Keep checking in during their application process to offer encouragement and share resources or success stories.

For Traditional/Day Students
The Office of Admissions invites incoming and current Traditional students to help us grow our Battling Bishops community by referring new students to NCWU and earn $100 towards tuition for each friend you refer to North Carolina Wesleyan University. It’s that simple!
All referrals must be submitted before the prospective student’s entry date.
- The student being referred must submit a completed NCWU application and be eligible for admission.
- The student referral may not be a currently enrolled student and/or a graduate of NCWU.
- The referring student will receive $100 credit towards their NCWU student account. Students are limited to 10 referrals and the credit(s) is only applied once the referred student is enrolled and verified by Admissions.

By participating in our Refer-a-Friend Program, you’re not just earning rewards—you’re playing a key role in helping prospective students find their way to a new opportunity. Here’s some FAQs to guide you through your role as a referring student, including how to communicate with your referral and how to document your efforts.
What is the Refer-a-Friend Program?
It’s a way for current students to help prospective students discover NCWU while earning rewards. By referring friends, you play a key role in guiding them toward new opportunities.
Do I have to communicate with my referral?
No, this is an optional part of the program. Your tiered scholarship is tied to your referral’s enrollment, not your communication with them. However, our data shows that a personal touch significantly increases the chances of a referral enrolling, so we highly encourage it.
How do I become a Student Ambassador?
When you have successfully referred three or more students who enroll, we’ll send you a personal invitation to join our Student Ambassador program. This role offers additional compensation for a deeper level of engagement and mentoring.
What is my role after I submit a referral?
Your involvement doesn’t end with the referral! Staying connected helps your friend feel supported and confident in their decision to apply and enroll.
How should I engage with my referral initially?
Within 48 hours of submitting a referral, send a personal message via email, text, or phone call.
- Offer support and let them know you’re available for questions.
- Share your experience in the program.
- Provide reassurance about the community and resources.
Can you provide an example message?
Sure!
“Hey [Friend’s Name], just wanted to let you know that I referred you to NCWU! I’ve really enjoyed my time in the program, and I thought you’d be a great fit. If you have any questions about the student experience, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to help!”
How do I keep the conversation going?
Check in periodically as they move through the application process. Share success stories or new opportunities to keep them engaged.
How do I document my communications?
Documentation is essential for tracking progress and ensuring you receive your scholarship reward.
- Email: CC adultstudies@ncwu.edu on your emails.
- Text: Screenshot the conversation and email it to adultstudies@ncwu.edu with your referral’s name in the subject line.
- Phone: Send a brief summary email after the call. Example:
“Just had a great chat with [Referral’s Name]! They asked about the course workload and I let them know it’s manageable alongside a full-time job. They seem excited to apply soon.”
When will I receive my scholarship?
Your referral bonus will be applied to your student account within 30 days of your referred student’s official enrollment. We’ll send you an email confirmation when the scholarship has been awarded.
