The MS in Information Technology Management program prepares information technology professionals for management-level careers. NCWU’s MSITM program is offered online and in a hybrid format, so students working in the IT field have multiple course options. The 30-hour program can be completed in 12-18 months, depending on full-time or part-time study.
Includes coursework in Information Systems Policy, IT Security, Management of Information Security, and IT Risk, among other courses.

Part of our Executive Residency Program
We also offer the Master of Science in Information Technology Management in our Executive Residency Program. This program is a hybrid format that allows students to take online and seated classes at the same time. This graduate degree program is ideal for International students, currently on an F-l Educational Visa, to meet their face-to-face class Visa requirements. The Executive Residency format meets seat-time expectations with weekend residency classes so working professionals can attend residencies without having to miss time from work.

Our Executive Residency Graduate MS-ITM Program is for students who want the support of face-to-face instruction along with the convenience and flexibility of online coursework. This F1-Visa Qualified Program is ideal for international students who desire to continue their education in the U.S. and pursue a master’s degree. Requires a total of 32 semester hours to graduate. Online only students will take Information Technology Management Capstone. International students will enroll in a I credit hour course section of BUS 694 each semester.
The Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MSITM) program at North Carolina Wesleyan University (NCWU) includes core leadership and business admin courses with a broad focus on all aspects of leadership and applies to a number of positions in business, industry, education, and non-profits. A heavy focus on information systems policy, security and risk, as a method to improve organizational effectiveness. The MSITM program is comprised of 30 graduate-level credit hours.
The MSITM program will require students to complete a research project that integrates the technical and scientific knowledge they have gained throughout the program.

Why should a student pursue this program? What makes it unique?
The program focuses on equipping information technology professionals with the essential technical expertise and the core leadership and management skills needed to help their organizations prosper. The MSITM offers a personal and practical educational experience beyond the traditional classroom setting. Students will have numerous hands-on opportunities to apply what they learn, making their learning journey relevant, exciting, and engaging. Concentrated residencies once per semester allow students to work with faculty and peers who are industry professionals to tackle real-world challenges. In addition, students can earn academic credit through internship courses with their current employer, allowing them to integrate their new knowledge into their work immediately. The curriculum helps prepare students for advanced certifications such as Certified Information Security Manager, Certified Information Security Professional, Data+, and software-specific certifications such as Tableau Certified Data Analyst and Microsoft PowerBI Analyst.

Does a student’s undergraduate degree have to be related to this field? Are there pre-requisites for this program?
Students should have an undergraduate degree in information systems, information technology, or related fields. Candidates with an unrelated degree with two or more years of industry experience or industry-related professional certifications will be considered for admission to the M.S.I.T.M program.
What undergraduate GPA do I need to apply to this program?
Students must have earned a baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Does this program require a graduate record examination (GRE) for admission?
The GRE is not required for admission to this program.
Are the courses for this program synchronous or asynchronous?
Courses are available in both online and hybrid formats. The online option primarily features asynchronous coursework, though many courses may include synchronous sessions to encourage peer discussions, provide feedback, and engage with faculty.
We also offer the Master of Science in Information Technology Management through our Executive Residency Program, which combines online and hybrid classes. These hybrid courses fulfill the face-to-face requirements for international students on an F1 Educational Visa. The Executive Residency meets one weekend each semester, allowing working professionals to attend without missing time from their jobs.
Are there any on-campus requirements such as on-campus meetings, orientation, etc.?
All courses and program-related content (such as orientation) are conducted online, so there is no requirement to attend any program content on campus for the online option. The Executive Residency option will require students to attend one weekend each semester (Three times each academic year.)
Is there an opportunity for hands-on experience during this program?
Yes, this program will offer opportunities to apply relevant classroom theory to real-world problems. Students in the Executive Residency option complete internships where they can apply what they are learning to their current position immediately while enhancing their resume with experiences and knowledge for career growth.
Does this program require a graduate thesis?
The MSITM does not require a thesis.
How long will it take to complete the MSITML program?
Students take courses during the Fall, Spring, and Summer I terms for a total of about 12-18 months. The length of the program will depend on the number of courses the student enrolls in each term and whether the student chooses the residency or online option.
